Friday saw us leave Rome and drive north to near Lucca. We came into the lovely rural hill country of Tuscany. We stopped at Orvieto which is a little town built on top of a hill with high walls. The villages of this area had all been built on top of the hills so that they were easier to defend as Rome fell. Here are some pictures of their beautiful church and views from atop the hill (see if you can find the little castle I discovered tucked in the valley!).
