Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter has never seen a year like 2020.
Despite the challenges of 2020, NSKS has remained open and dedicated to serving the residence of Nashua and beyond. Through the efforts of our amazing staff, donors, and volunteers, NSKS has been able to provide the following services in 2020 to keep our community safe and successful.
The NSKS Emergency Singles and Family Shelter was able to safely provide 10,342 nights of emergency shelter for single adults and families of Nashua and beyond.
The NSKS Financial Assistance Program was able to assist 26 adults and 15 children with financial assistance to keep clients in their homes. This was achieved despite our business offices being closed for two months this year.
The NSKS Food Pantry was able to accommodate 39,858 visits for fresh produce and provide 6,709 Emergency Food Boxes containing popular shelf stable food, eggs, milk, and bread.
The NSKS Kitchen was able to serve 45,413 Dinners and 17,755 Breakfasts.
The NSKS Personal Care Program was able to accommodate 18,540 visits for diapers and 10,241 visits for toiletries such as toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, soap, menstrual products and other hygiene necessities.
The NSKS Christmas Program assisted 161 families for the holiday season with celebratory food, gifts, and toys. Through the NSKS Christmas Program, 416 children received gifts.
Nashua Meals for Kids, a supplemental meal program for the students of Nashua, was able t0 provide 18,135 ready-made microwavable meals to students in need.
The NSKS Mobile Pantry was able to to provide 71,057 lbs of fresh produce to schools, elderly housing, and gathering places around Nashua.
In addition to the successes above, NSKS in the midst of a Capital Campaign working to renovate 35 Spring St., the former Sacred Heart Elementary School, into our new NSKS Emergency Shelter and Community Center. The new facility will not only expand our available shelter space, but provide low income housing to chronically homeless individuals, and provide public meeting spaces for community projects. The new facility is set to open in Summer of 2022.
